What is a Bimini Enclosure?

A product which combines the benefits of the UV protection and shade of the cockpit Bimini and the protection and extra space of the cockpit enclosure.

“Would you like protection from the rain, or the sun?”, is one of the most frequent questions we have asked yacht owners over the past 20 years. The dilemma is; whether a waterproof Cockpit Enclosure is necessary and preferred rather than a Bimini sunshade; or vice versa. As most yacht owners know; all kinds of weather conditions are experienced when out enjoying your sailing, sometimes all in the same day in the UK! Therefore, this combination product is an excellent investment.

How does it work?

The C&J Bimini Enclosure will utilise the same frame set up of our classic cockpit Bimini. It is designed to attach, using heavy duty zips, to your existing or new C&J Sprayhood using an extra ‘canvas infill panel’. Then zipping the sides and aft panels into position, and attaching the panels to the cockpit moulding, your Bimini is now transformed into a fully functional Enclosure that provides protection to the cockpit from bad weather conditions. The extra space now gained by adding the zipped panels can now be maximized in many other ways.

When sailing the panels should be removed for safety reasons, the ‘roof’ section remains secured to the framework by means of heavy-duty nylon zips incorporated into a canvas pocket. Sturdy, quick release stainless steel support bars secure the Bimini aft and strong adjustable webbing straps tension the Bimini forward. If decided the Bimini roof is not required for your passage, the webbing straps can be quickly released enabling the roof canvas and frame to fold aft against the support bars and/or the backstays. Once stowed in this position, a separate acrylic canvas pouch is zipped on to protect the roof section and contain it neatly.
