| | Sunny Southampton puts on a show C&J would like to thank all its loyal customers and staff for making this year's Southampton Boat Show the best ever!
The show is one of the top-rated in Europe, attracting more than 120,000 visitors each year and providing a showcase for hundreds of local companies, such as C&J Marine.
Enjoying some of the best September weather for years, there were more than 1,000 boats on display - many of which were afloat in a specially-built marina. With prices ranging from £500 to a cool £11m - the choice was vast.
Perhaps due to the current economical climate, there seemed to be a move towards people holding onto and investing in their own boats. C&J's sales manager Martin King said: "People were definitely interested in looking after what they already have and it was great to see that even in these tough times, the love of sailing is as strong as ever. It was great to see so many of our customers at the show once again."

| | | C&J ensure doctors get a good night's sleepC&J Marine is proud to be supporting two courageous Army doctors who are planning to row around Britain to raise money for Help for Heroes.
Doctors Nick Dennison and Hamish Reid are aiming to enter the record books next June by being the first pair to complete the gruelling 2,100-mile journey, accompanied by high seas, fierce winds and strong tides.
The Clay Lane company has kitted out the 24ft Woodvale Class rowing boat "Komale" with a made-to-measure mattress to ensure the intrepid pair get a decent night's sleep.
The doctors said: "C&J Marine have very kindly fitted Komale out with a fantastic new mattress. It is so clean at the moment that we are nervous of sleeping on it! We are very grateful to them. Our efforts at the moment are on getting the project going and raising money to cover project costs, so it is great to have opportunities to keep the charitable fundraising going; so far we have raised over £1,000."
Komale is a self-righting wooden boat, custom-made for the rigours of ocean rowing. The two-man berth has two rowing positions and integrated GPS, AIS communication systems. It is no stranger to challenges and in 2007-08 completed an Atlantic crossing in 63 days as part of the Woodvale Race.
Money raised will go to enhancing the care given to wounded service personnel. Set up in 2007 as a civilian initiative, Help for Heroes is a non-political charity that aims to provide direct practical support to wounded servicemen and women injured in conflict and to enhance public support and awareness for the Armed Forces.

| | | Clean up your actC&J recommends that sails and covers are professionally cleaned and inspected at least once a year, normally at the end of the sailing season to ensure you get the maximum out of your product.
After cleaning canvas covers to remove dirt, salt crystals and other damaging abrasives, re-proofing is generally recommended. This puts the protective water resistant coating back on the outside of the fabric. A thorough inspection of the covers for 'wear and tear' is also advised. The condition of the canvas is vital to the life span of your cover; and tell-tale signs of fibre UV degradation can generally be spotted. Windows, straps, fasteners and stitching are also closely examined and repaired only where necessary.
Sails should be cleaned thoroughly and inspected for any signs of general 'wear and tear'. Frayed or broken stitching and chafing around the edges and corners are vulnerable areas. Particular attention is also paid to sacrificial UV strips on the foot and leech of a roller genoa, cross trees and spreader chafe on overlapping headsails and lazyjack chafe on mainsails.
Your clean, dry, and repaired covers and sails can then be securely stored away, free of charge*, at our premises during the close season ready for when you need to use them again in the Spring.
Valeting charges vary for covers and sails, depending on the weight of, fabric type and design of the cover or sail. Accurate quotations for costs can only be supplied upon visual inspection of the goods either at our premises or onboard. However, estimated guide prices are available upon request. For further information please contact any member of our sales team or complete our enquiry contact form on the website.
* Free storage is available if the cost of valeting and repairs is settled within two weeks from the invoice date.
